11 Big House Rooms
6 Farmyard Houses
7 Artists' Studios
Music Room, Recording Studio, Dark Room,
Library, Drawing Room, Kitchen
Evening meal provided, otherwise self-service
Gardens, grounds, lake, forestry
However, the Library is not a research or a reference library.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE LOCALITY

Drumlins, lakes, rivers, forestry. Small villages & towns.

 

NUMBER AND LENGTH OF RESIDENCES

Variable, up to three months in Big House.
Six months in farmyard.
Literary translators' residencies are between 3 and 4 weeks' duration.

 

LANGUAGE COMBINATIONS

English is common language.
For literary translators, preference is given to those who are translating a work of Irish literature written in English or Irish.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Record of achievement, clear project plan, references.
For literary translators, evidence of a publishers' contract, CV, list of publication, description of the project.

 

CULTURAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES RELATED TO TRANSLATOR-TRAINING

Most activities related to literary translation take place in Dublin. Regular events are International Translation Day with conferring of Prix de l'Ambassade in September, Cultural event on agm day in October, Celebration of translation in May/June. Other events vary.

 

PUBLICATIONS

Quarterly review, Translation Ireland.
Occasional multingual translations published in booklet form.
